International conference "Advanced Engineering Design (AED) 2006" at ČVUT in Prague

Between 11 and 14 June 2006 the Czech Technical University in Prague will hold a conference named "Advanced Engineering Design (AED) 2006". The event will take place at the lecture halls of the ČVUT's Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (Technická 4, Prague 6) and it will be introduced by an opening ceremony night on 11 June 2006, 19:30, at the National Technical Museum (Kostelní 42, Prague 7).

The conference aims to present the findings of creative engineering research pursued in the fundamental technical disciplines such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, transportation, computational technology and others. The conference, split into 8 sections and offering 220 lectures and posters, will be attended by 200 workers engaged in the basic and applied research in 35 countries of the world. The conference will be accompanied by a competition intended to select the best contributions (lectures and posters) delivered by the doctorate study students.

The conference will be partnered by: University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde, Engineering Academy of Czech Republic and the Royal Engineering Institute of Great Britain.

ČVUT Workshop for Primary Schools in Prague 6

On 19 May 2006, between 10:00 and 12:00, the Czech Technical University in Prague in cooperation with the ČR Association of Small "Debrujárs" (AMD) will organize a workshop for Primary Schools based in Prague 6. The event will be hosted by the Congress Hall of the Masaryk's Hall of Residence (Thákurova 1, Prague 6).

The Workshop's agenda will offer experimental demonstrations, presentations of interesting scientific & technical facts and competitions. The experiments will be demonstrated by children from the AMD Association for children living in Prague 6.

The Workshop will be opened at the introductory ceremony by prof. Ing. Václav Havlíček, CSc., the Rector of ČVUT, and Ing. Jaroslava Trnková, the deputy mayor of Prague 6. The event will be hosted by RNDr. Milan Rojko, CSc. from MFF, Charles University. The morning agenda will be followed by an excursion round some selected ČVUT's premises organized for several "debrujár" clubs and a group of children from Prague 6.

The ČVUT's Workshops is held as a part of the International Festival of ČR's "Debrujárs", taking place between 17 and 21 May 2006, with ČVUT as a partner. The event is also included in the Project of "ČVUT for Primary Schools".

Shoichiro Toyoda will be granted a honorary doctorate at ČVUT in Prague

On 16 May 2006, starting at 10:00, the Czech Technical University in Prague will conduct a ceremony of granting a honorary doctorate to Mr. Shoichiro Toyoda. The event will take place at the Chapel of Bethlehem (Betlémské Square 4, Prague 1); using the occasion the Toyota Company will demonstrate its humanoid robot.

On the same day, at 13:00, Mr. Toyoda will held a press conference at the Club of Architects (Betlémské Square 5a, Prague 1).

Dejvická 006

On 7 and 8 May the Czech Technical University in Prague in conjunction with the Prague 6 District Municipality will hold an event designated summarily as Dejvická 006 with the "DejVíce Technice" (be more involved in technology) activity included. The opening ceremony will take place on 7 May 2006, at 14:00. The venue of the event will be the Dejvická Str., Prague 6.

The event will be held under the auspices of prof. Ing. Václav Havlíček, CSc., the Rector of ČVUT, and Mgr. Tomáš Chalupa, the Mayor of Prague 6.

The "DejVíce Technice" event is a unique project of ČVUT designed to present the University to the general public in an entertaining manner. As the high spots of the program come the presentations of the individual Faculties offered at large tents and performances to be seen on the grand stage. No less important will be the attendant program running parallel to the main event; it will give a chance of spending a day of fun to people of all age groups who may decide for e.g. sporting activities (climbing wall, trampolines), competitions & events for children, non-traditional activities (Strahov Room, Study Department, cake eating competition, "Butterfly, or how do the handicapped live"), the "Small Engineer" - an event for youngsters with inquisitive minds, and more.

Ceremonial inauguration of the Chancellor and Deans of ČVUT in Prague

On 7 March 2006, from 10:30 a.m., a ceremonial inauguration of the Chancellor, Prof. Ing. Václav Havlíček, CSc., and Deans of České vysoké učení technické (ČVUT; Czech Technical University) in Prague will take place. The action will be held at Bethlehem Chapel (Betlémské náměstí 4, Prague). In the ceremonial inauguration, chancellors of Czech universities, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Physical Culture, diplomatic corps, academic community, and other important guests will take part.

On the occasion of the ceremonial inauguration, the chancellor of ČVUT will give, at 8:30 a.m., a breakfast with journalists, in which the newly elected deans of ČVUT faculties will take part and answer journalists’ questions. The action will take place at the Club of Architects (Klub architektů) (in the courtyard of the Bethlehem Chapel).

The breakfast will be attended by the Governor of the Czech National Bank Zdeněk Tůma who will introduce a new commemorative silver coin issued to the 250th anniversary of F. J. Gerstner’s birth and the 200th anniversary of opening teaching at the Prague Polytechnic.
