15 - 19 January 2007 Technology Week

The Czech Technical University in Prague is celebrating the 300th anniversary of its origins on January 18th, 2007. On this day 300 years ago, Emperor Josef I instructed the Czech Estates to fund studies of fortifications engineering in Prague, under the direction of Christian Josef Willenberg.

To honour this anniversary, the University is organising a series of events which the president of the Czech Republic, Václav Klaus, and the mayor of the capital city of Prague, Pavel Bém, have taken under their patronage. UNESCO has also offered its support for our anniversary events. The main celebrations will be held from January 16th - 19th, 2007, and the programme will be as follows:

16. 1. 2007 - a concert by the Czech Philharmonic orchestra (programme: Brahms - Academic Festival Overture; Smetana - Vltava and Šárka; Dvořák - New World Symphony), Rudolfinum, at 7.30 p.m.

17. 1. 2007 - awards of CTU in Prague doctorates, honoris causa (Václav Klaus, Josef Kittler and Stuart E. Graham), Bethlehem Chapel, at 10 a.m.

18. 1. 2007 - open joint celebratory session of the Academic Senate and the Scientific Council of the Czech Technical University in Prague, at the Spanish Hall, Prague Castle, at 10 a.m. (the speakers will be the president of the Republic, the mayor of the capital city of Prague, the minister of education, and other distinguished guests)

19. 1. 2007 - vernissage of the exhibition Engineering through the Eyes of an Engineer, Lapidarium at Bethlehem Chapel, at 10 a.m.

Numerous members of the CTU in Prague academic community will be joined on the main days of the celebrations by the president of the Czech Republic, members of the government of the Czech Republic, the mayor of the capital city of Prague, the mayor of Prague 6 city district, the rectors of universities abroad, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the church, and leaders of Czech industry, commerce, science, research and education.

26 October 2006 General Assembly of CESAER and seminar at CTU in Prague
On 26 – 28 October 2006, the Czech Technical University in Prague will organise a Prague meeting of CESAER as part of the Celebration of 300 Years. The event will start at the Chancellor’s Office of CTU (Zikova 4, Prague 6) on 26 October 2006 at 10.00 a.m.
24 October 2006, 10:00 a.m. Seminar about studies at CTU and perspectives of CTU graduates on the labour market

The goal of this meeting is to briefly inform students and their advisors about CTU in Prague and its faculties (Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Transportation Sciences and Faculty of Biomedical Engineering). We feel that it is important for our students to know their work opportunities. Therefore, the seminar will be attended not only by CTU representatives, but also by representatives of large Czech enterprises in which our graduates work. At the end of the seminar, there will a discussion and we will try to answer your questions. The seminar will take place in the Congress Hall of the Masaryk Hall of Residence of CTU at 10.00 a.m.

19th-20th October 2006 Visit of Prof. Horst L. Störmer to CTU in Prague

Horst L. Störmer , Nobel Prizewinner for Physics in 1998, will spend two days at CTU in Prague. This visit forms part of the Honeywell Nobel Laureate Lecture Series . The visit will include a 'master class' with students, meetings with PhD students and researchers, and a reception with faculty and university officials.

4 October 2006 8.30 a.m. A Day Full of Games or Intelligence Tests of Mensa for high school students
The event is designed for high school students from the entire Czech Republic and will take place in the Bethlehem Chapel at 8.30 a.m. There will be tests (e.g. Mensa tests, IQ tests, professional orientation tests), presentations in the main hall (e.g. Ondřej Neff, Vlado Ríša from IKARIE, Václav Pravda etc.), workshops, consultations provided by psychologists, demonstrations of brain-teasers and games and a presentation of CTU faculties. In the foyer, there will be a main information booth of CTU where high school students can get printed or electronic information about study at CTU. A festive beginning of the academic year of 2006/07 will take place in the Bethlehem Chapel at 10.00 a.m. as usual. All members of the academic community, non-academic employees and student representatives are invited.

25 September 2006 8.00 a.m. Press conference for the Celebration of 300 Years of CTU in Prague
A press conference at the occasion of the opening of the Celebration of 300 Years of CTU will take place in the Architects’ Club. Prof. Ing. Václav Havlíček, CSc., the chancellor of CTU, doc. PaedDr. Jiří Drnek, CSc., the head of the Department of Physical Training of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of CTU (sports during 300 years) and Martin Fiala, the president of the Student Union of CTU (student events) will answer questions from journalists. The press conference will be moderated by prof. Ing. František Vejražka, CSc., the vice-chancellor for public relations.

Concert given to mark the end of summer term of the 2005/06 academic year associated with the announcement of the McKinsey Scholarship winners. The concert will be performed by the 4TET band.

19 May 2006 Workshop at the International Festival of "Debrujárs"

On 18 May ČVUT will have its presentation booth at the "Day of Museums" event taking place at the Museum of the Capital City of Prague, and on 19 May 2006 the University will hold a Workshop for children from Prague 6, where children from the AMD Association will demonstrate a number of experiments.

19 May 2006 Toyoda will be granted a honorary doctorate at ČVUT in Prague

On 16 May 2006 ČVUT will grant Mr. Shoichiro Toyoda a honorary doctorate at a ceremonious session of the Scientific Board of ČVUT convened at the Chapel of Bethlehem.

13. 3. 2006 19:30 Concert to W. A. Mozart’s birth anniversary (Betlémská kaple /Bethlehem Chapel/)
The Talich Chamber Orchestra and Pavel Šporcl will perform well known and less known compositions of the significant composer of the 18th century. The concert will take place at Betlémská kaple (Bethlehem Chapel).

The concert to W. A. Mozart’s birth anniversary may only be attended by persons having an invitation card and ticket issued by the External Relations Department.

7 March 2006 10:30 a.m. Ceremonial inauguration of a new ČVUT Chancellor in Prague (Betlémská kaple /Bethlehem Chapel/)
A ceremonial act at the attendance of the Prime Minister, representatives of Česká konference rektorů (Czech Conference of Chancellors), academic community, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Physical Culture (MŠMT), City of Prague and other important guests during which Prof. Ing. Václav Havlíček, CSc. will be introduced to the office of the Chancellor of ČVUT in Prague, and new Deans of ČVUT faculties will be introduced concurrently with him to their respective offices.

7 March 2006 8:30 a.m. Meeting of journalists with the Chancellor and Deans of ČVUT
A meeting of journalists with the Chancellor of ČVUT, Prof. Ing. Václavem Havlíčkem, CSc. , and the Deans of the faculties of civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, nuclear sciences and physical engineering, architecture, transport, and biomedicine engineering at the Club of Architects (Klub architektů) (Betlémské náměstí 4, Prague 1). During the action, a new coin of F. J. Gerstner will be introduced to the journalists by a representative of the Czech National Bank (Česká národní banka) and it will be ceremonially handed over to the Chancellor of ČVUT. There can also be seen a number of historical coins issued by the CNB since 1957 and plaster castings of other designs of coins, of which the coin of F. J. Gerstner was the winning one.

A ceremonial concert organised on the occasion of a new chancellor’s inauguration. The Orchestra of Prague Symphonists will perform under the conduct of Jan Šrámek.
